Greenwood businesses and entrepreneurs can now benefit from the Indiana Small Business Development Center at their local library!
Greenwood Public Library and the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) have partnered together to bring business related resources closer to the Southside.
For the past six months, residents in Greenwood and surrounding communities have gathered at GPL to learn about topics such as Writing a Business Plan, Basic Start-Up Steps, Human Resources Issues, and more. These groups have been led by a member of the Indiana Small Business Development Center or a guest speaker brought in by the ISBDC.
The next series of workshops planned for Greenwood Public Library covers everything from Business Plans to Financing. Programs will take place once per month for the next five months. A complete schedule and more information may be found at www.greenwoodlibrary.us/smallbusiness.asp. Workshop fees range from $20 - $30. Registration required. Call Sheila with questions at 885-5036.
The circle bed in front of GPL was excavated this past fall to prepare for the new vegetable garden that is being installed spring 2010. This educational space will take root in just a few short months. The garden will act as a lab to coincide with a series of Sprouts classes planned for March – August 2010. Six homeschool classes are now booked. Progress can be tracked by visiting http://www.greenwoodlibrary.us/sproutssub.asp While originally this project was going to be a teen only homeschool horticulture series aimed at providing students an opportunity to learn science in a hands-on way, the excitement and support we have received from our patrons has led us to open the program up to all homeschool students, regardless of age. Lessons will be taught by librarian and horticulturalist Kendra Martin and geared towards grades 5-12, and younger children will be involved by having coinciding activities related to the topic of the day with GPL homeschool coordinators Emily Ellis and Lori Anne Boone. The Johnson County Master Gardeners will be volunteering their time as well to help make the classes a success.
