 We need your help!  The Greenwood Public Library relies on the charitable work of adult and teen volunteers to keep the library running smoothly and efficiently.  If you are interested in offering your time at the library, continue reading!

What does a volunteer do at the library?

You may sign up for one of the following volunteer positions :
(Volunteers may work 2hrs per week; additional service hours may be scheduled with the volunteer coordinator)

Adopt-A-Dewey Assistant

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Mon-Fri
Positions: 20

Help clean book jackets, straighten and dust shelves, and keep materials in order.  Responsibilities might also include helping with displays and maintaining spreadsheets.

Must be able to work quietly, indendepently, and pay attention to detail.  Perspective volunteers must pass a shelving test for consideration.

Adult Events Aide

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Flexible
Positions: 1

Assist with program preparation and room set up for library hosted adult programming.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, be personable, and communicate effectively with patrons.

Clerical Assistant

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Mon-Fri
Positions: 5

Assist librarians with day-to-day projects including stocking paper, cutting scrap paper, cleaning, and straightening.

Must be able to work quietly ,indpendently, and pay attention to detail.

Computer Assistant

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Mon-Fri
Positions: 2

Assist patrons having problems with computer programs or with limited computer skills.

Must show a superior knowledge of basic computer operations, Internet use, and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Ground Keeping Assistant

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Mon-Fri
Positions: 1

Help keep the library grounds clear of trash and debris.  Pull weeds, keep sidewalks clear.

Must be able to work independently.  This position requires some bending and stooping for prolonged periods.

Hip-to-Knit Assistant

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Mon-Fri
Position: 1

Assemble beginner kits, organize yar supply, room set up, cut reminder cards, display flyers, organize patters, photocopy projects, and organize photo album.

Must show an enthusiasm for knitting and helping with program preparation and setup.

Mending Specialist

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Mon-Fri
Position: 1

Mend library materials.  Works with torn and loose pages, broken spines, damaged covers, etc.  

Must have previous book mending experience and pay great attention to detail.

Young Adult Events Aid

Term: 50 hrs
Schedule: Flexible
Position: 1

Assist with program preparation and room set up for library hosted young adult programming.

Must be available to work a flexible schedule, be personable, and communicate effectively with patrons.

 

 

How do I become a volunteer?

  1. Pick up a volunteer application at the Adult Reference Desk, or print one out here.  You must be at least 12 years old to volunteer at the library.
  2. Return the completed application to the Adult Reference Desk on the second floor.
