< Using Your Library

A Greenwood Public Library card can be obtained by anyone who resides or owns property in Johnson County. Depending on where you live in Johnson County, your library card with Greenwood Public Library will be either an Evergreen Indiana card, or a reciprocal borrower card.

Evergreen Cards: Green Evergreen Indiana library cards are issued to community members living within our Greenwood taxing district.  (Click here for a map of the Greenwood taxing district.) This card allows you access to the greater Evergreen consortium. Click here to learn more about Evergreen Indiana.

Reciprocal Borrower Cards: Since GPL does not have a reciprocal agreement with Johnson County Public Library, it is unlawful to issue these white cards anymore.  In order to become in compliance with the Indiana State Library's regulations, no new white card will be issued beginning March 1, 2012.  Any current white cards will expire on May 1, 2012.  Anyone who does not reside within the Greenwood taxing district and wishes to continue using Greenwood Public Library's services, may purchase either a Non-Resident or a PLAC card.

Your Password
When you receive your library card, you will be given a temporary, automatically generated password. The first time you use the card, you will be prompted for the temporary password and then asked to create a new password of your choice. If at any time you cannot remember your password, or if you have lost the original four digit password, simply call the library or stop by and we will assist you.

Non-Resident Card

The Greenwood Public Library offers non-resident fee cards to those living outside the Greenwood taxing district. This card allow people who do not pay property taxes inside the city limits of Greenwood to put themselves on the same footing as a Greenwood city resident, by paying an amount equal to what the average person pays in property taxes to Greenwood Public Library each year. For one individual, that amount is $57.

In return for your fee, you receive a single non-resident Evergreen card that may only be used by the cardholder. With this card, you have the same access to services that a Greenwood city resident has. In addition to checking out books and materials at Greenwood Public Library, you can use any of our subscription and free databases that allow us to provide access from outside our buildings. This includes access to our digital library of eBooks and eAudiobooks available through OverDrive. Materials may also be obtained from other Evergreen libraries.

In addition to the Evergreen card, you will also receive a $25 programming card.  This card gives the cardholder and their family access to all of the programs offered at GPL for one year.

A Non-Resident card is good for one year, but can be renewed each year by paying the yearly fee. The fee is re-evaluated every year, so please request a new form when it is time to renew.
