Taxes: A Certainty of Life

This page contains a collection of tax resources available in the library and on the internet.  Most tax forms can be obtained for free directly from the IRS or the Indiana Department of Revenue via mail or printed from the internet.  However, the forms can be copied/printed at the library for 15 cents/sheet.

FAQs

How can I get a paper tax form?
(1) The library will stock some state and federal forms beginning in early January.
(2) You can always call the IRS and IN Dept. or Revenue to have forms mailed to you (IRS: 1-800-829-3676 Indiana: 317-615-2581)
(3) You can go online to print forms at www.irs.gov/formspubs/ and www.in.gov/dor/3489.htm.
(4) Visit the 2nd Floor Reference Desk where librarians can help you print forms for 15 cents/sheet.

Where can I get free tax help?
Visit the AARP's Tax Aide Locator (www.aarp.org/applications/VMISLocator/searchTaxAideLocations.action) or the IRS Vita Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site http://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/ for a location near you.

Does the library have free tax help?
The library is a host site for VITA in February, March, and into April.  This service is for senior citizens and low-to-mid income individuals (making $49,000 or less).  Call 885-5036 in early January to schedule an appointment.

Where should I mail my tax returns?
There are a few options for Indiana residents.  For Federal forms, go to www.irs.gov/file/article/0,,id=104573,00.html.  For State forms, visit www.in.gov/dor/3484.htm.
