Spelling Bee

Level 1 (Ages 6-7)
Level I participants will practice spelling designated words during the Level II and Level III written contest. Participation ribbons will be awarded to all spellers.  Level 1 Spelling List

Level 2 (Ages 8-11)
Spelling Bee will consist of a written and oral test. Points will be awarded for each correctly spelled word in both sections. The participant with the most points at the end of Round 10 will be named Spelling Bee Champion.

Junior Homeschool Classes
Writing Projects

Join us this fall for a Writing Projects workshop.  We will discover and practice a different writing style during each class.  Please register in advance for each class of interest. 

January 23 (2pm) - Writing Projects I
In this introductory lesson, we will focus on using library resources.  How do you find an item in the online catalog?  Where is it located on the shelf?  What are some important books that are good for research?  Find answers to these questions and more!

January 30 (2pm) - Writing Projects II
In this second class, learn the steps involved in gathering information for an essay and how to cite sources.

March 12 (2pm) - Writing Projects III
In our third class we'll discover the lost art of letter writing.  We will learn the proper way to write letters.

April 9 (2pm) - Writing Projects IV
In our final lesson we will focus on several different types of poetry and how to present our Writing Project creations.

April 30 (2pm) - Writing Project Presentations
Students are encouraged to gain further experience with public speaking at this presentation session. Junior Homeschoolers may choose to share any of their writing project creations with the group. Presentations should last between 1-3 minutes.  More details will be given at the April 9th session.

Teen Homeschool Classes
Research Papers

It is a rite of passage for every student to complete a research paper.  With proper planning, the process of completing a research based assignment can be easy and fun.  Join us for a four week workshop during which we will explore finding resources, outline, creating a rough draft, and editing a paper.

A list of topics will be provided at our first workshop on January 23rd.

January 23 (2pm) - Research Papers I

In this introductory lesson to the Research Papers unit, we will focus on using library resources (both print and online).

January 30 (2pm) - Research Papers II

February 20 (2pm) - Research Papers Lab
Use this open lab time to gather information for your research papers and receive assistance if needed.

March 12 (2pm) - Research Papers III
This lesson will focus on outlining a research paper and writing a rough draft.

March 26 (2pm) - Research Papers Lab
Use this open lab time to gather information for your research papers and receive assistance if needed.

April 9 (2pm) - Research Papers IV
The final lesson on research papers will focus the process of revising, editing, and proofreading. We will also cover presentation tips and strategies.

April 23 (2pm) - Research Papers Lab 
Use this open lab time to gather information for your research papers and receive assistance if needed.

April 30 (2pm) - Research Paper Presentations
Students are encouraged to gain further experience with public speaking at this presentation session. Teen Homeschoolers will present their research papers.  Presentations should be between 5-7 minutes in length.  Additional information will be provided at the April 9th session.
