Free Online Photo Editors

FotoFlexer -
An easy to use free online image editor that allows for resizing, adjusting exposure, adding text and effects, and working with layers.

Pixlr -
Similar to FotoFlexer, this free photo editing tool shares many of the same features, but it functions very much like Photoshop (so it is a bit more advanced).  The site also has a separate 'Vintage Photo Effects' tool with a wide variety of filters.

Be Funky -
Look past the slightly silly name and page design for another free and easy to use photo editor.  In addition to tools for resizing and editing, Be Funky has plenty of options to personalize your photos including holiday-themed frames and objects to insert like speech bubbles.

What is a pixel?
A pixel is a picture element, the smallest unit of measure for images.

What is a megapixel?
A megapixel, or MP, is one million pixels.  It is used to describe pixels in an image and the number of display elements on digital cameras and digital displays such as screens.

What is resolution?
Resolution refers to the detail of an image.  The higher resolution, or greater number of pixels, the more detail.

What is the best file format for pictures on the web?
JPEG is the best file format for the web, and is what images taken with most digital cameras will be saved as.
