We all know the phrase “It takes a village” – that’s true of early literacy development as well. And GPL believes it’s important to make sure that the village itself feels equipped to help children learn and grow so that, by the time they are students walking into kindergarten, they have been given a solid literacy foundation and the tools to succeed.
This spring the library is hosting its first ever Early Literacy Mini Conference designed to help caregivers and educators build that foundation, share ideas, and walk away with the resources they need to help children thrive.
Throughout the day attendees will have the opportunity to hear from local experts on early development for babies and toddlers, preschool age, and kindergartners. We're also excited to announce that our keynote speaker is author and storyteller, Mary Jo Huff! Mary Jo will be leading us through a storytime and offering a hands on activity later in the afternoon.
Registration will also include a swag bag, early literacy workbook created by library staff, and a "storytime in a box" with books and resources.
